I wish I had a way of recording life as it was happening. I wanted to preserve the memory of what happened that badly, so I am writing it here to remember forever...
I'll give you a little back story first. The Gremlin woke up around 5:15 or so and cried out for a few minutes. It was an odd cry. It was not her "I'm hungry" cry or a simple "I woke up and didn't want to" cry. This was more of a "I am scared, help me" sound. But she fell back asleep, so I figured it was just a bad dream and now it was done.
2.0 woke up at 6:15, so I went in to feed him. And when I got to his door, the Gremlin started crying out again. And didn't stop. My husband has to leave for work at 6:45, so there was no way he was going to be able to help out. I was on my own. So after I finished feeding 2.0, I went into the Gremlin's room. This is when I wanted the filming to start.
I walked in and saw something that just broke my heart. The Gremlin was sitting against the back of her crib. She had each arm wrapped around a stuffed animal and was clutching them to her chest. And sobbing. I walked up to the railing and she didn't even lift her head, just sat there crying. I picked her up, grabbed a blanket and sat down on her chair. I held her in my arms with a blanket wrapped around both of us while she clutched her stuffed animals. And she immediately stopped crying and fell back asleep.
After 30 minutes she cried out "agua" and then went back to sleep. After an hour, she lifted her head, handed me the stuffed animals and then looked me in the eyes and smiled. Her face, the face of one of the bunnies, her blanket and my shoulder were covered in snot, but I have never been happier in my life.
As I have mentioned, I am a bit up tight. I like things to be the way I want them to be. I knew this unscheduled delay was going to make our morning a little crazy. I knew it was going to be tough to get everyone dressed, fed and out the door to the nanny's by 9. I knew 2.0 was going to wake up shortly and that he was going to be off schedule since he ate at 6:15 and not 7. But at that moment, there was no place else on the planet I would rather have been.
And just for the record, 2.0 did wake up shortly thereafter. And I manged to get both of them dressed, get the Gremlin fed, and get all four of us (2.0, the Gremlin, the Monster and I) out the door and walking to the nanny's by 8:50.
And 2.0? He slept until 10:00. Here he is after our 1:00 feeding, looking a little bored, if I do say so myself.
Being the one person who can comfort another whom you love so much is the best feeling in the world. Also, your baby looks like he smells like cookies :)
ReplyDeleteBtw-congrats on the morning routine save. Success!
ReplyDeleteSmelling Luke cookies would be so awesome! And dangerous for me. I would never be able to lose the baby weight.
