So her Majesty has kidney disease. It is just the early stages and is totally expected for an 18-year-old cat. But there it is. She has been peeing in the corner of our room for months now and I am sure you can imagine how wonderful cat urine embedded in a carpet in 90+ degree weather is.
One of the many things the doctor told us to do was to put a bowl of water upstairs for the cat. Kidney disease causes frequent urination and therefor dehydration. So she needs to drink more water. We also need to give her IV fluids a few times each week. Apparently she also is getting arthritis - again, not surprising - which makes it painful to go downstairs to use the litter box. I am also guessing the fact that a certain large furry someone stalks her every time she steps out of the bedroom has something to do with this aversion. Regardless...
We now have a dish of water in our bathroom for her Majesty. It is one of her old food dishes and is in the shape of a cat's face and has eyes, ears, a nose, mouth and whiskers painted on it. Needless to say, the Gremlin knew immediately what it was for. Every time she sees it she points and says "kitty agua, kitty agua" and runs over to her Majesty and shows her where the water is.
I used to worry about what I would do when we lost her Majesty. But now I am more concerned about how it is going to affect another certain someone. The Gremlin just LOVES the cat. We had to drop her Majesty off at the vet on Tuesday, so EVERYONE got to ride in the car together in the morning. The Gremlin just kept screaming "Kitty, Carro, Meow, Meow" over and over. When we got home that evening we had to give the kitty multiple treats (pieces of her Kidney Diet food). This was after convincing the Gremlin that the kitty wasn't a fan of cereal. If only I could get the Monster on board with the "no cereal" thing. I'm not sure who eats more of it - the kid or the dog.
Here are a few photos of the crew.

Sorry to hear about the kitty. While it may not be surprising, it still stings. :(
